Trine Construction Honored with 2026 APWA Chicago Metro Chapter Public Works Project of the Year

Trine Construction is proud to have been recognized with a 2026 APWA Chicago Metro Chapter (Suburban Branch) Public Works Project of the Year Award in the “Environment – $5 Million to $25 Million” category for our role as General Contractor on the Sugar Creek Watershed / Jackson Pond Expansion Project in Villa Park, Illinois.

This project was designed to address long-standing flooding issues in northern Villa Park neighborhoods that had impacted 61 homes following severe storm events in 2013. The solution centered on expanding the existing Jackson Pond detention basin and connecting flood-prone areas along Addison Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue via a new storm sewer system, ultimately routing stormwater to an improved outfall at Sugar Creek.

As GC, Trine’s scope included installation of a 72-inch relief storm sewer along with various other pipe sizes to improve stormwater conveyance throughout the affected corridors, as well as full roadway reconstruction in the impacted areas upon completion of the underground work.

Construction coordination was particularly demanding given the site’s proximity to multiple schools and community facilities. Our team implemented strict safety protocols, managed truck routing around school hours, and maintained consistent communication with residents and stakeholders throughout the duration of the project.

The final phase reached substantial completion on October 16, 2025 — nearly a month ahead of schedule — a testament to the planning, adaptability, and craftsmanship our crews brought to a complex, fully developed urban environment.
