Due to existing soil conditions conventional methods of boring were not possible for the installation of proposed water services under an existing landscaped median. Open cut methods were not an option. Trine suggested the installation of a HDPE sleeve for each service. Alterations were made to our equipment to allow simultaneous boring and pipe installation thus eliminating the concerns of poor soil conditions. Directional boring would be the normal alternative in a trenchless scenario. This was not possible in this case and pneumatic equipment was used.
The results of this suggestion offered by Trine were an otherwise impossible trenchless operation completed and the Village of Glen Ellyn now has the new water services encased allowing for simple removal and replacement at any time without the need to complete the same operation all over again. The landscaped median was maintained in its original condition without disturbance.
The owner was pleased with the outcome as the services were completed without additional cost and the added benefit of the casing was provided.
